PRP Hair Restoration
What causes sudden hair loss in men?
The most common cause of hair loss is a hereditary condition called male-pattern baldness or female-pattern baldness. It usually occurs gradually with aging and in predictable patterns — a receding hairline and bald spots in men and thinning hair in women. Hormonal changes and medical conditions can also effect hair loss in both men and women.
What is PRP hair restoration therapy?
Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is a substance used to promote healing when injected. Plasma is a component of your blood that contains special “factors,” or proteins, that help your blood to clot. It also contains proteins that support cell growth.
The idea is that injecting PRP into damaged tissues will stimulate your body to grow new, healthy cells and promote healing. Because the tissue growth factors are more concentrated in the prepared growth injections, researchers think the body’s tissues may heal faster.
What is the procedure like?
Your appointment consists of a lab draw of your blood while your scalp has topical numbing cream applied to it. While your scalp is numbing, our medical professionals will separate the platelets from your plasma by inserting the lab draw in a centerfuge. Once the plasma has been separated it will be injecting by a tiny syringe into the thinning areas of your hair. The entire process takes about an hour or less.
How often do I have to do the injections?
PRP injections into the scalp are generally performed once every 4-6 weeks over a series of 4-6 treatments.
Before receiving PRP for hair restoration, we will schedule you for a complimentary consult with our Nurse practitioner/ Master Injector to determine factors leading to your hair loss/thinning and will discuss a treatment outline, cost and possible outcomes.
